Why do people move every 5 years?

Americans move an average of every 5 years now. The question is: why?

Before the Internet, you did not want to move that often. You probably feared disconnecting from family and friends and also enjoyed just being comfortable with your surroundings--knowing where the closest grocery store was, having your favorite dry-cleaners nearby. Moving was like losing your identity.  You felt like you lost your sense of proficiency in life if you moved.

Fast forward: the Internet has not only made life easier and more efficient, it has made us comfortable with picking up our lives and moving across the country or world. With the internet, you can educated yourself on your new digs before you've even packed a box for the move.
